Leadership Experience:
Camp Texas is designed for incoming freshmen students who want to learn traditions, resources, and opportunities to facilitate their transition from high school to The University of Texas. Funded by the Texas Exes, our alumni chapter is heavily involved in the process of choosing counselors and planing the camp. Selected as one of 60 counselors from 200+ applicants, I have the privilege of leading campers in numerous interactive activities, while gauging their progress and emotions. Through careful planning and collaboration with other counselors, I delegate roles in activities, entertain, inform and excite, while helping campers create a network of friends in the Longhorn community.
Texas Lassos, a service organization on the UT campus, is comprised of 100 girls. Among 350+ applicants, I was one of only 19 girls accepted at the time I applied. Lassos support our neighboring community through countless service events and community work. We strive to represent the University of Texas in a respectful manner, as members aspire to maintain a moral character above reproach. Lassos play an integral role in the University by attending sporting events, supporting the arts, and engaging in philanthropic works throughout Austin.
Leadership Week Conference- participant Spring 2012
Over 500 students applied and 100 were chosen for the opportunity to grow from a seven day conference hosted by the University of Texas Division of Housing. Through Leadership Week 2012, I was able to gain a new perspective and further develop my leadership skills. Speaker- series topics included: multi-tasking, teamwork building, personality traits, creativity, determination, and management v. leadership. I gained insight into my personal strengths, while observing areas for improvement.
Rambler
Country and Western Dance Team- Captain (2009– 2011) Fall 2008- Spring 2011
I was one of only two Sophomores to make the team, comprised primarily of Juniors and Seniors. As a Junior, I was selected captain, serving
as the first Junior girl to ever be given the opportunity. Leading this team involved
choreographing and teaching partner dances, daily, to a 36 person country and
western, swing dancing team. The highlight of the three years on this team culminated during my senior year, as I was given the opportunity to assist in
choreographing and leading this team in the opening act of the 2010 Macy's
Thanksgiving Day parade.
